This meetup is all about COP26: What’s going on? In the negotiations, in the cultural sector and on the streets. Thursday 23rd September 2021, 2pm-3.30pm. Book your place via Eventbrite.
Join us for the first joint online meetup for Green Arts Initiative and Green Tease network members.
COP26 is the 26th annual ‘Conference of the Parties’ to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It will be held in Glasgow, at the SEC, in November 2021. It will be the first COP to take place after the landmark Paris Agreement’s measures took effect.
Kat Jones, COP26 lead at Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, will talk about the focus of this COP summit, and what they hope will (or will not) be included in any ‘Glasgow Agreement’.
We’ll then explore how the outcome might impact on the cultural sector and hear from a few cultural organisations and individuals who are planning events and activities at COP26, as part of the official programme or as an independent or critical response.
- Meray Diner will discuss the 1.5 Degrees Films Climate Challenge being run by Film Access Scotland
- Elizabeth Freestone will discuss her book 100 Plays to Save the World, which is being published ahead of COP26
- Graham Hogg will discuss the After the Pandemic project, which is organising an alternative community-led space in Glasgow during COP26
- Fadzai Mwakutuya will discuss her artivist project Climate Change Creative and her experiences of collaboration within the arts and beyond
Finally, we’ll learn about opportunities for engagement with cultural, civil society and activist activities around COP26, and hold a space for attendees to share their own plans and ideas.
This event is part of Climate Fringe week, celebrating and supporting all the ways you can take part in climate activism.
