Glasgow AM: Strategic Environmental Planning for RFOs and Lead Officers

Environmental planning for RFOs and Lead Officers: Edinburgh

This seminar is for senior staff or Board members of Creative Scotland Regular Funded Organisations and Creative Scotland Lead Officers. It will help RFOs, Creative Scotland and Creative Carbon Scotland work together so the sector can play its part in achieving the ambitious carbon reduction targets set by the 2019 Climate Change Bill currently going through the Scottish Parliament, the need for which is highlighted by the recent report of the UK Committee on Climate Change. In response to the now widely accepted Climate Emergency, Scotland is committing to be carbon neutral by 2045, with Glasgow and Edinburgh City Councils aiming for carbon neutrality by 2037. These are challenging targets and mean that business as usual is not an option for any part of society: we are all going to have to do different things, not just do the same things differently.

The focus of the seminar will be strategic planning to strengthen our ambition so that the sector is preparing for significant carbon reduction during the next funding period towards the mid 2020s whilst achieving its core aims of producing, presenting and supporting great artistic work. If possible, therefore, co-ordinate with your RFOs/Lead Officer respectively to attend the seminar together. We’ll also outline the Carbon Reporting and Carbon Management Planning processes that are requirements of current RFO funding agreements.

These seminars are aimed at senior staff and Board members involved in artistic and organisational planning rather than operational staff. Creative Carbon Scotland’s Carbon Management Planning Officer will provide more operational support for Green Champions during the reporting process from July onwards and we will get in touch with them directly about this.

Tea and coffee will be provided.

We have arranged seminars in Inverness on 15 July, in the morning and afternoon of 16 July in Glasgow, in Edinburgh on 18 July and another one in Edinburgh on 19 July, in Dundee on 22 July and in Aberdeen on 23 July with webinars for those who cannot attend a live seminar for reasons of their location. A limited number of travel bursaries is available on a first come, first served basis for those who have to travel more than 50 miles to the nearest seminar – contact Ben Twist for details. Please see or contact for more information.
