Audiences > Better Recycling for Audiences

Provide good recycling facilities and detailed explanatory signage to encourage their use, and remove ‘general rubbish’ bins except next to the recycling bins.

How to

Work with your waste contractor to develop a simple signage system which is used throughout your organisation (eg with catering partners also if appropriate) to ensure consistency between audience, artist and staff behaviour. When researching a supplier, ask for details of what percentage of the waste stream they guarantee to recycle, and also how they go about doing so.

Important ways to improve recycling usage are:
– Clear signs, with images, on each bin
– Group different bins together rather than have different recyclates in different locations
– Publicity about your recycling rates, to show that staff are doing it too.
