During the 12-day residency in Wigtown the artist will make and show new work inspired by the Wigtown Book Festival and the people and ideas met throughout. This opportunity is open to artists working in any discipline, though the work produced should encourage participation across a wide range of ages, interests, and social backgrounds.

  • A willingness to be in the studio-style space to discuss your work with visitors for a certain amount of time during the residency
  • Being on site in an open studio-style environment in Wigtown during Spring Fling hours (10:30 am to 5:30pm on all three days) and available to talk to the public about your work during this time
  • Ability and willingness to work independently

Perks of the job:

  • A £3000 fee, including material and travel costs
  • Free accommodation throughout the residency
  • Free entry to both the Wigtown Book Festival and Spring Fling (usual artist participation fee is £250)

To apply, email the following to Kate Pickering at

  • Six images of your work in digital format
  • A statement about your practice
  • An up-to-date CV
  • A maximum of 400 words about how you would spend your time in Wigtown, what you would propose to produce by the end of the 12-day residency, how you will develop this and present it during Spring Fling, and details of any relevant experience you have in this area.
